We recently searched for a General Manager for our client’s subsidiary in India. This recruitment assignment was very challenging, as it involved finding a European candidate with experience in the Asian region. An assessment had been planned to complete recruitment. One of the favoured candidates happened to be in Germany at the time and was able to come to Basel for the assessment. The other candidate, however, was in China on an assignment. A solution was soon found.

A classic assessment with all of the instrumental and process-oriented tools was required as the selection of the key position at the Indian subsidiary was so important. We therefore coordinated a virtual assessment day with the candidate in China that involved everything associated with a “live assessment”. The only thing that was unable to take place was the joint lunch, of course. But both the prepared presentation as well as the impromptu presentation went smoothly. The staff interview also worked seamlessly in a virtual setting, which seems to have become the norm everywhere.

The distance and time difference are forgotten within the first half our of the assessment. With sufficiently sized screens you might even forget that you aren’t sitting in the same room. The virtual room allows us to meet without masks and get a better impression of candidates than if we were looking at a pair of eyes sat face-to-face in the same room.

We carried out the above-mentioned assessment in a manner that has become increasingly popular, particularly in the current climate – even if the candidate isn’t in China, of course. We would be delighted to speak to you about your next assessment – be it virtual or in person.
